What inspires you? People doing their best.

What made you decide to be a salon owner?
Because salons are one of the only places in our society where people can be nurtured on a regular basis and getting a haircut is one thing we all have in common regardless of our culture or economic status.

How long have you been in the beauty business? I started working for Aveda in 1988 and have been co-owner of Caruh since 2000.

What contribution do you want to make to the world? I want to change the way the world thinks about beauty.  I want people to know that beauty is not about what we look like, but rather about who we are.

How long have you been doing hair? 16 Years

What made you decide to become a hairdresser? Ever since I was a little girl I loved to play with makeup and hair.  It was my dad who actually had said that this is something I would be good at, and I should look in to going to Cosmetology school. It’s one of the best things I ever did for myself.

What does beauty mean to you?
Beauty to me means laughter, love, joy, sense of peace…it’s not all about the way you look on the outside, it’s how you perceive life around you and what you project on to others.

What excites you? Love, family, the people I surround myself with, travel and doing something I’ve never done before.

What is your favorite book?  Creativity by Matthew Fox. One of the most positive and galvanizing call-to-action books I've ever read.

What would you do if you were not a hairdresser? I would love to participate in and facilitate group process leading to greater awareness, compassion, and action for social and environmental justice (reference to Joanna Macy).

When did you start working at Caruh? August 2000

What gives you hope? Seeing life spring up in the most unlikely places.

What has been your greatest accomplishment so far? Apart from becoming a mother, of course— finding happiness in a creative career that continually pushes me to grow.

Why do you enjoy working with guests at Caruh? I enjoy the ability to help someone express their personality through their hair color. Studies show that hair, second only to the eyes, is the first thing noticed about you by other people.

How long have you been a hair colorist? November 2001

What is one thing you want to teach your daughter? That beauty is not skin deep.
